PLEASE READ THESE NOTES FIRST!

  • Eligible Persons

This service is only available to U.S. residents who are not prohibited by law from possessing such magazines. Also see "Note To California & Other States' Residents" below.

  • LEO-marked / AWB-marked Magazines

Magazines which are marked "RESTRICTED LAW ENFORCEMENT / GOVERNMENT USE ONLY" or "FOR EXPORT ONLY" or similar are now LEGAL under Federal law for civilians to possess and therefore OKAY to send us for repair.

State laws are however still in effect and the California notes above are still in effect.

Quoting an ATF publication "Semiautomatic Assault Weapon (SAW) Ban Questions and Answers" from September 13, 2004:

Q: Are SAWs (semi-automatic assault weapons) and LCAFDs (large-capacity ammunition feeding devices) marked “Restricted law enforcement/government use only” or “For export only” legal to sell to civilians in the United States?

A: Yes. SAWs and LCAFDs are no longer prohibited. Therefore firearms with the restrictive markings are legal to transfer to civilians in the United States and it will be legal for non-prohibited civilians to possess them. All civilians may possess LCAFDs.

  • Note to California & Other States' Residents

Residents of California must send their magazines for repair only through a local gun dealer who has a special permit to handle "high-capacity magazines".

If you send it directly to me, I'll have to hold it until you can supply me with an address in another State to ship it back.

To be sure of my understanding of how Calico .22LR magazines are viewed under California law, I wrote to the Attorney General. You can see their official reply here.

Other States to which I cannot legally and will not ship Calico magazines are:

    • Hawaii
    • Maryland
    • Massachusetts
    • New Jersey
    • New York

Now or in the future, there may be other States or localities with laws that may be interpreted as preventing us from shipping Calico magazines to those areas. In such cases, we will contact you to arrange for delivery to another locality.

See your local and State laws for the most up to date information. A handy (but unofficial) overview is at http://www.handgunlaw.us/documents/NoHiCapChemSpray.pdf.

  • Send Complete Magazines

Please try to send all or a majority of the parts, even if they're broken or damaged. Do NOT send your firearm or any other parts of your firearm to me - only the magazine.

But note that it is now LEGAL under Federal law for you to send two or more magazines to have us cannibalize in order to build a new magazine for you.

State laws are however still in effect and the California notes above are still in effect.

  • Repair Form & Packing

Please copy / print and completely fill out the repair form and send the form and your magazine(s) inside a properly padded & sealed box or other container.

Most .22LR repairs run $75-85 and most 9mm repairs are about $95.

We suggest that you enclose a prepayment (US check or money order only)  of about $75 - 95.

We'll refund any excess payment. We'll contact you if any complications arise.

  • Insurance & Shipping

To protect yourself against problems in transit, you should send the package insured for replacement value. For insurance purposes, the approximate values for these magazines are as follows:

    • .22LR 100 rounds $175
    • 9mm 50 rounds $165
    • 9mm 100 rounds $250

If necessary, you may describe the package contents as being a "Calico Drum" to help prevent loss or unwanted attention.

  • Estimates, Questions

Once I have your magazine, if it costs more than your enclosed prepayment, I'll contact you to let you know how much the total estimated cost will be.

If I do not complete the repairs, I'll ship it back and you'll have to prepay for return shipping only. If you give me the okay, I'll proceed. If I have to order parts, there may be a delay of possibly two weeks or so. Workload also affects turnaround time.

If you have any questions, please e-mail me at prototech@usa.net
